Nokia Lumia 1020 with 41MP camera, Optical Image Stabilization, Xenon flash announced
The Nokia Lumia 1020 has been announce in New York, it features 41MP PureView sensor with OSI, and Xenon Flash. There are many camera features in the Lumia 1020 which can make even some of the best point and shoot cameras jealous. The 6 element Carl Zeiss optics present in the new PureView device, also allows for 3X high resolution zoom, autofocus or manual focus, and a dual-flash system where a smaller LED flash complements the larger Xenon flash if required, the camera on the Lumia 1020 can capture 1080p videos at full 30 FPS.
The Camera
The 41MP camera unit on the Lumia 1020 aims to bring hitherto unknown low-light performance, including manual exposure settings as well as long exposure times. The camera app includes a tutorials for newbies to help them guide through the interface. The Lumia 1020, just like the previous gen Nokia 808 PureView features "oversampling" of images, where it creates 5-megapixel images with lossless zooming for great looking cropped images, not that the full images look any less good. With the Lumia 1020 this "oversampling" is coming to videos as well, where you can zoom into your HD captures without loosing much detail, it was a revolutionary technology in itself with images but its a whole new ballgame with videos. Plus, phone also features what Nokia calls "Rich Recording" to allow capture through HAAC mics in stereo mode for distortion free sound.
There's a front facing 1.2 MP wide-angle camera as well for video calls and great self-portraits. The Lumia 1020 also has a Camera Grip accessory which allows you to put it on a Tripod.
The Phone
The Nokia Lumia 1020 is more than a camera, its a Windows Phone 8 device as well. It features a 4.5-inch 720p PureMotion HD+ display with Nokia's ClearBlack AMOLED technology and is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core snapdragon processor. Other than that the phone also has 2GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage, which is non-expandable. But the Nokia Lumia 1020 is quite thin at 104mm and light as well at 158 grams considering it has a ginormous 41MP sensor at the back as well as a 2000 mAh battery. In terms of connectivity you ahve your usual stuff including LTE/3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC. There's Wireless charging as well, but you'd need to put on a different cover for that.
