Micromax Canvas Tabby, a dual-Mode Kids and Family tablet launched in India for Rs. 6499
Micromax today did something different, they ventured into untested waters. They launched Canvas Tabby, a tablet designed for Kids with educational content and parental controls for overseeing. All the content available on the Tabby is divided into parts, Educational, Entertainment and Creative. Parents have complete control of what their children do on the tablet and for how long. After the designated time period expires, the concerned app or content becomes unavailable.
For the content and Kids Mode/Parental controls on the Canvas Tabby, they have partnered with Educren, a US based company dedicated to finding news ways to make technology work in making our little geniuses brighter and ready for the world. They are leveraging technology to make things more entertaining for children so that they learn faster and are able to ascertain what they like even from a very young age.
The Canvas Tabby itself is a 7-inch tablet with a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB expandable storage running Android 4.4 KitKat. It is a dual-SIM voice-calling tablet and there would be a jacket available later to protect it in case it falls, and it also doubles up as a stand. Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and a 3200 mAh battery are also onboard.
But the Canvas Tabby isn't about the specs, its about the experience your children will have learning new things, watching movies or playing games all of which are important for growth. In the time that I spent with the device, it felt well built, the jacket will definitely help but more importantly the content here is of good value, the parental controls work. Moreover, Educren says that content will also be updated from time-to-time.
Now, at just Rs. 6499 this is a fairly decent tablet by itself, combined with the Kids-specific content its a great deal if you are looking for something for your little ones. The Canvas Tabby will be available from 22nd June exclusively on Flipkart, the separate protective jacket will go on sale sometime in July.
