There is also a Snapdragon 652 powered LG G5, heading to Latin America
It seems LG has made two separate variants of its flagship, LG G5 smartphone. The one we saw at MWC 2016, was the Snapdragon 820 variant but as we have come to know now, folks over in Latin America are getting the less powerful Snapdragon 652 variant of the G5.
Now, the rest of the specs, including the modular battery compartment, quad-HD display, new dual-rear cameras all remain the same. Its only the chipset that has now changed to Snapdragon 652, which in its own right is quite powerful as well.
Its the same dual-chipset strategy that Samsung follows for these markets, however its Exynos 8890 chipset is just as powerful as the Snapdragon 820, if not more. Atleast in the eyes of the consumers, the LG G5 with Snapdragon 652 would seem a bit under-powered. Moreover, this variant won't be compatible with the LG VR 360 headset.
All in all, this is a calculated move to keep costs down for the flagship in these regions, especially when it doesn't sell well there. We don't know how much the change in pricing would be for the SD652 variant but it seems like a sound strategy by the company.
