Huawei Ascend W2 wants to take the place of the Nokia Lumia 520

It seems like ages since last time we heard of talk of Windows Phone outside of Nokia and Microsoft. But Huawei has been a Windows Phone partner ever since launch. Here's another device to just remind us of that, the Ascend W2 is the company's latest offering on the Windows Phone front for the budget customer.

The Ascend W2 features a 4.3-inch WVGA display at 217 PPI pixel density and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8230 dual-core 1.4 GHz processor with 512 MB RAM and Adreno 305 GPU. There's 8 GB of onboard storage with no expansion slot. But the phone is quite large at 134mm in height whereas the Samsung Galaxy S4 is 136.6mm even though it has a 5-inch display. Its weight of 160 grams doesn't help it either in the bulk department.

In terms of imaging, there's a 5 megapixels camera capable of 720p video recording with connectivity options including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G. Everything runs on its 1700 mAh battery. Huawei is touting it as an affordable alternative to other smartphones and will foray into Russia and Netherlands soon. Expansion to other markets will follow soon. It will be available in Yellow, White, Black, Cyan and Red colors, however Huawei is still mum on the exact pricing of the Ascend W2.
