HMD Fusion launched Globally with Smart Functional Cases, 50MP Front Camera
HMD has unveiled its latest smartphone, the HMD Fusion in the Global market at IFA 2024. The device features a modular design with a six-pin connector on the back, enabling the use of specialized cases that enhance the phone’s functionality, reminiscent of Moto Mods. HMD refers to these cases as ‘Smart Outfits.’
According to the company, each outfit instantly modifies the phone’s hardware and software, unlocking new features, unique interfaces, and improved performance.
Flashy Outfit - Equipped with a built-in ring light for both the front and rear cameras, this outfit offers customizable lighting and camera effects through the camera app.
Rugged Outfit - Designed for outdoor use, this case adds extra protection and brings an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. It also includes wireless charging with magnets and an emergency (ICE) button.
Casual Outfit - Offering an industrial-chic design, this case provides minimal protection while maintaining a sleek appearance. It comes in various colour options.
HMD has also launched the Fusion Kit, an open-source software and hardware developer kit that’s easy to use. The company reports that at least one third-party developer is already working on their own Smart Outfit for specialized solutions.
Like the HMD Skyline, the Fusion boasts Gen2 repairability, allowing easy replacement of the display, back cover, battery, and charging port with the help of iFixit.

Pricing and Availability -
The HMD Fusion is available in a single Black colour, and the price is 249 Euros (approximately USD 276 / Rs. 23,225) or 199 GBP (approximately USD 262 / Rs. 22,010), and will be released soon. The Flashy, Rugged, Wireless, and Gaming Outfits are set to launch later this year, with prices ranging from 39 Euros to 99 Euros.
