Android One budget smartphones may be launched in India on September 15th
Google has begun sending out invites for its press event in India on September 15th where we expect Android One smartphones to be launched. The Android One initiative is to bring together manufacturers to make sub $100 smartphones to connect the next billion. The invite reads "Block Your Date", possibly a reference to the building blocks of Android which will make the new budget smartphones possible and carries on to say "for an exciting new announcement."
Micromax, Karbonn, Spice, Intex and Celkon have already been announced as Android One partners by Google. Micromax's Android One smartphone will come with a 4.5-inch display, MediaTek processor, dual-SIM support and microSD card slot for additional storage. Sundar Pichai, Android Chief at Google had said back at I/O that the initiative will start with India and hence the announcement.
