Google adds Reliance Jio 4G VoLTE support to the Pixel and Pixel XL with Android 7.1.1 update
Google has finally added support for VoLTE on the Reliance Jio 4G network for the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones in India with the new Android 7.1.1 Nougat update. It's not just for Jio, other operators in the world that use Voice over LTE should now be able to make calls over it.
To enable VoLTE on your Google Pixel or Pixel XL, just head over to 'Cellular network settings' and then enable 'Enhanced 4G LTE Mode'. Once done, you will see 'HD' on the status bar indicating that VoLTE is now enabled on your smartphone.
The new Android 7.1.1 update also brings in some bug fixes and performance improvements. You will now also be able to send GIFs directly from the keyboard in supported apps. OTA update images for Android 7.1.1 Nougat is already available for the Pixel and Nexus smartphones, which can be downloaded from the link below.
Here are the devices getting the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update:
- Pixel / Pixel XL
- Pixel C
- Nexus 6P
- Nexus 5X
- Nexus 9 / Nexus 9 LTE
- Nexus Player
Since this is just an incremental update it doesn't add any new features for the Pixel smartphones, but the Nexus devices do get a taste some new features borrowed from the Pixel line-up.
