DataWind PocketSurfer GZ smartphone launched at Rs. 1499 with 1-year free internet
DataWind has launched yet another affordable internet enabled device in India. Similar to their Android tablets, which are priced quite affordably, the DataWind PocketSurfer GZ smartphone comes in at Rs. 1499 and you get 1-year free internet as well.
Coming to specs, the company didn't reveal much apart from that the phone has a touchscreen and it possibly runs on Android. There is a rear camera here with flash too, but a front facing camera would probably be too much to ask at this price. Anyways, this won't be a phone for gaming but casual use and web browsing.
The company also sells other budget smartphones in its PocketSurfer line-up including the 2G4X priced at Rs. 2499 going up to the 3G5 at Rs. 5999. All of these smartphones come with 1-year free internet.
But a word of caution, we have already seen DataWind fail with its Aakash tablet project and we think the free internet is just 2G (can't complain though at this price.) Then there was the Freedom 251 which hasn't yet made it to any customer.
