Apple's iPhone 7 goes into a hissy fit if you push it too hard

Multiple reports have emerged over the last few days on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus making "hissing" sounds at their owners. It's not because your phone is mad at you (for your grubby paws), but probably due to some static interference with the speakers or what is being termed as "coil whine" which is mostly associated with PCs.

One thing that was common among reports from around the web on the "HissGate" or "BuzzGate" (coz, why not!), was that it only appeared when the phone's hardware was pushed. Given that Apple has used the new powerful A10 chip inside the iPhone 7, this hissing noise maybe coming from it or some other electronic component which hasn't been dampened properly.

Stephen Hackett from 512 pixels, pointed out the strange noise which was later confirmed by TechCrunch's Darrell Etherington. However, the issue is far from universal as many have reported their iPhone 7s to be working fine. Hackett, also uploaded a video on YouTube where the "hissing" sound is clearly audible.

As my iPhone 7 Plus was restoring from iCloud, I thought I noticed some sound. After picking the device up from my desk, it was clear the sounds are coming from back of the phone, possibly from the CPU. It seems to get worse if the iPhone is under load. It’s loud enough to be heard even if the iPhone is just sitting on the desk. - Stephen Hackett, 512 Pixels

Later, Lewis from Unbox Therapy also showed similar results with his iPhone 7 Plus unit on a video and also compared it with the iPhone 6s.

Given that this sound only emanates when there is heavy load on the processor, you may not even hear it. However, this may creep up, say, when you are using the camera to record videos. The "hissing" sound will make it to your recording as well with the sensitive microphones on the device, not the most ideal case when filming the first birthday of your newborn.

As per usual, Apple has declined to comment till now. But Apple Care is replacing Hackett's iPhone. If you are experiencing a similar issue, you should contact your nearest Apple Care center. This is not just a good year for flagship devices, with Samsung Galaxy Note 7 literally blowing up and Apple's iPhone 7 making a hissy fit.
