Xiaomi announces Mi MIX, crazy bezel-less smartphone with 6.4-inch display, Snapdragon 821
Along with the Mi Note 2, Xiaomi also announced its Mi MIX smartphone which was a concept till now. The 6.4-inch display wielding smartphone doesn't have any bezels giving it a whopping 91.3% screen-to-body ratio. Xiaomi has again gone with a full HD resolution display here at 2040 x 1080 pixels. The display is curved in the corners, similar to what we saw with a Sharp prototype earlier. Xiaomi took the help of renowned designer Philippe Starck for creating the smartphone.
Given that there is no top bezel on the smartphone, the 5MP front-facing camera has been moved to the bottom right. But what's more interesting is instead of having a standard earpiece, the Mi MIX has a piezoelectric speaker that uses the metal frame to generate sound.
Under the hood, we have the Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor with 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM options with 128GB and 256GB storage. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 8 on top. To keep the front clean, the fingerprint sensor has been moved to the back just below the 16MP rear camera. There's a dual-tone LED flash as well, f/2.0 aperture, phase-detection autofocus available as well. Just like All this is powered by a 4400 mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 3.0.
Even with all the latest internals, the focus here is on the display of the phone, which curves to the sides making the phone easier to hold. Xiaomi also added that given larger utilization of the phone body for the display, the company has been able to fit a 6.4-inch display in a body size similar to a 5.7-inch smartphone.
Now, even though this smartphone seems to be just out from a sci-fi movie, Xiaomi is actually going to sell it. The Mi MIX will be available starting November 4th and is already on sale in China. It's been priced at 3499 Yuan ($516 or Rs. 34500) for the 4GB RAM variant while the 6GB RAM variant with 256GB internal storage will cost 3999 Yuan ($590 or Rs. 39500).
