Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max launched with 6.3/6.9-inch LTPO and rear 120Hz OLED screens, Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 SoC

Xiaomi has officially launched its latest premium smartphones in the 18 Pro series, the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max in China at its Autumn New Product Launch Event, following its earlier announcement.

Lu Weibing, Partner and President of Xiaomi Group, presented the two smartphones along with their hardware upgrades, specifications, pricing, and availability. Xiaomi also confirmed that the standard Xiaomi 18 will be introduced separately later this year.

Design and Display

Both smartphones feature Xiaomi’s latest self-developed screen packaging technology, which reduces the bezels to just 0.99 mm on all four sides. The devices adopt a large micro-arc quad-curved frame aimed at providing a more comfortable grip, while the rear incorporates an integrated flat secondary display with similarly slim borders.

Xiaomi is also offering a Transparent Edition of both models with an avant-garde design. These variants feature a red transparent rear panel made from Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0, allowing the internal design elements to remain visible.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro features a 6.4-inch display, while the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max comes with a larger 6.9-inch panel. Both smartphones use the SuperPixel 2.0 display with an M11 luminescent system. The panels employ new green light-emitting materials and a full RGB pixel arrangement, with peak brightness reaching 4,000 nits. Other display features include an LTPO 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate and support for the BT.2020 ultra-wide color gamut.

Hardware-Level Privacy Protection

The display incorporates hardware-level intelligent privacy protection that reduces viewing angles when enabled while maintaining image clarity. When privacy mode is turned off, the screen returns to its standard viewing angles.

Users can create customized lists of applications that should use the privacy feature. Once an application is added, notifications, floating windows, and multitasking previews are subjected to pixel-level obfuscation.

The privacy rules can also be customized alongside on-device AI capabilities. A dedicated physical AI button provides one-touch access to the global privacy mode and can be customized according to user preferences.

Performance and Thermal Management

The Xiaomi 18 Pro series marks the debut of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, built using a 2nm flagship process. Xiaomi has highlighted several performance and architectural improvements with the new platform.

• CPU: The processor reaches maximum clock speeds of up to 5.0 GHz.
• GPU and NPU: GPU performance is claimed to be 35% higher while reducing power consumption by 40%. NPU inference performance increases by 80%, while overall computing performance improves by 15%.
• Thermal Dissipation: The smartphones use OFFSET PoP high-thermal-conductivity chip packaging combined with a redesigned ring-shaped cold pump cooling system. The setup is designed to maintain stable full-frame-rate performance during extended gaming sessions under heavy workloads.

Battery, Connectivity, and Hardware Features

Both models use Xiaomi’s next-generation Jinshajiang silicon-carbon battery technology, featuring 32% silicon content.

The flagship models also include a 7514 linear motor that delivers a claimed 75% improvement in transient vibration response. It is integrated into an ultra-wideband cyber motor supporting 26 categories and 183 operational scenarios with fine-tuning capabilities.

For durability, both smartphones carry IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. Connectivity features include UWB (Ultra-Wideband) interconnection hardware, while the Pro Max additionally features a triple-stereo speaker system.

Leica Triple-Camera System

The Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max share the same rear triple-camera configuration developed in collaboration with Leica.

• Main Camera: 200MP sensor with a 1/1.28-inch size, using the Light Hunter 960 sensor and supporting high dynamic range.
• Telephoto Camera: 200MP periscope telephoto camera with a 1/1.56-inch Samsung HP5 sensor, a 75mm equivalent focal length, and support for macro photography from as close as 12 cm.
• Ultra-Wide Camera: 50MP OmniVision OV51D sensor.

Imaging Processing and AI Features

The camera system introduces Xiaomi’s “Legendary Moment” large-model imaging pipeline. The technology retains raw sensor information and combines on-device and cloud-based processing. The smartphone handles real-time image capture through dedicated hardware across three classic camera profiles, while cloud processing is used to reproduce optical characteristics associated with traditional camera hardware.

The AI-powered photography system further adds location-based recommendations for popular photography spots, automatic composition analysis and filter suggestions, as well as real-time posture guidance for portrait photography.

Rear Secondary Display

Both smartphones feature a functional rear display that supports dynamic notifications. According to Xiaomi, the rear-screen ecosystem has reached 3.97 million daily active users, along with 138 million monthly assistant interactions and 497 million monthly wallpaper installations.

The rear display supports more than 100 dedicated application cards at launch, including quick widgets, notification feeds, decompression games, and AI-generated applications.

The AI system can also create personalized rear wallpapers using photos of pets, idols, or artifacts and adapt them to match specific smartphone cases.

Software: HyperOS 4 and Super Xiao Ai 2.0

The Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max ship with HyperOS 4. The operating system integrates Super Xiao Ai 2.0, which is powered by Xiaomi’s MiMo foundation model.

The assistant has received ecosystem-level intelligent agent certification and supports features such as one-click memory retention, autonomous task planning, and execution of complex multi-step tasks.

HyperOS 4 also enables cross-device collaboration, allowing connected tablets and PCs to directly access and process smartphone data through integrated security protocols.
