Vivo thinks front-facing cameras are as important as rear cameras, launches Vivo X7 and X7 Plus

Vivo has taken the wraps off two of its new smartphones, the Vivo X7 and X7 Plus both featuring a 16MP front-facing camera with a front soft LED flash.

Vivo X7

The smaller Vivo X7 packs a 5.2-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass on top. It is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 652 with Adreno 510 GPU, 4GB RAM 64GB internal storage. It is a dual-SIM 4G LTE capable smartphone but sadly still runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with the company's own FunTouch OS 2.5.1 on top.

Cameras are the focus of both the X7 series phones. You have a 13MP rear camera on the Vivo X7 with f/2.2 aperture lens, phase-detection autofocus (PDAF). Now, instead of at the back like the V3 variants, the X7 has a front-facing fingerprint sensor which is embedded in the home button. It is quite a thin device at just 7.24mm, but still manages to pack a 3000 mAh battery which supports fast charging. Connectivity options include dual-band WiFi ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS but there's no NFC here.

Vivo X7 Plus

The bigger Vivo X7 Plus gets a larger 5.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display and a massive 4000 mAh battery as well to keep it going. Under the hood you have pretty much the same configuration including the octa-core Snapdragon 652 SoC, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage but there is a 128GB storage variant as well. However, Vivo has a ded a 16MP rear camera with Sony IMX298 sensor on the Plus variant which was last seen on the OnePlus 3.

There is a fingerprint in the front here as well just like the X7. Even this one comes in under 8mm thickness but weighs at 183.5 grams. Here too you have dual-SIM support with dual-band WiFiac, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS.

Pricing and Availability

The Vivo X7 has been priced at CNY 2499 (about Rs. 25200) and will be going on sale in China starting July 7th. Vivo X7 Plus will get its price revealed on July 15th.
