Sony Xperia Special Event 2024 will be held on May 17; Expected Xperia 1 VI with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, Tripe 48MP Camera

Sony has set the date for its Xperia product launch event on May 17th, during which the company is expected to introduce the new Xperia 1 VI flagship smartphone. Sony has already confirmed its plan to launch new Xperia phones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform in 2024, indicating that the chip will likely be featured in the flagship device.

According to rumors, the phone will feature a wider and more traditional 19.5:9 aspect ratio, compared to the 21:9 aspect ratio found in older models. Additionally, it is said to come with a 2K+ or Quad HD+ (approximately 3200 x 1440 pixels) panel instead of the 4K panel used in previous models. Reportedly, it will measure 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.4mm, making it wider and shorter than the older models due to the design change, and it is said to be 0.1mm thicker compared to the Xperia 1 V.

Reports suggest that the Xperia 1 VI will feature a triple camera setup on the back, with all three rear camera sensors rumored to be 48MP Exmor T sensors, including a 48MP 1/2.7″ periscope telephoto sensor capable of 3x optical zoom and up to 6x zoom via sensor crop. There are also rumors of the Xperia 10 VI being launched at the event, but it is not clear whether we can expect the Xperia 5 VI since the Xperia 5 V was only introduced in September last year.

The Sony Xperia launch event on May 17th will start at 7:00 PM JST (3:30 PM IST), with only 100 people invited to the event, according to the event page. While there are no live stream links available yet, we can expect more details in the coming weeks.
