Sony WF-1000XM6 Earbuds launched Globally with enhanced noise cancellation, 32-bit Audio, LE Audio Support
Sony has launched the newest member of its 1000X lineup, the Sony WF-1000XM6 true wireless noise-cancelling earbuds in the Global Market. Replacing the WF-1000XM5 launched in 2023, the latest model brings notable hardware enhancements focused on stronger noise cancellation, improved sound quality, and better call clarity.
Noise Cancellation Enhancements -
Sony claims the WF-1000XM6 delivers up to 25% better noise reduction than its predecessor, particularly in mid-to-high-frequency ranges typically found in cafés, offices, and public transport.
The improvement is powered by a new internal setup featuring the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3e paired with the Integrated Processor V2. The V2 chip includes an Adaptive Noise Cancelling Optimiser that continuously evaluates ambient sound and fit conditions in real time.
Hardware upgrades also include an increase from three to four microphones per earbud. Additionally, Sony has introduced new “Noise Isolation Earbud Tips,” offered in four sizes to better seal the ear canal and reduce sound leakage based on individual ear shapes.
Audio System and Tuning -
The WF-1000XM6 features a redesigned driver unit with a hybrid diaphragm structure. It combines a soft edge to enhance bass response with a lightweight, rigid dome for clearer high frequencies.
Audio processing has been upgraded from 24-bit to 32-bit via the V2 processor, while the QN3e chip handles DAC amplifier performance. The earbuds support Hi-Res Audio Wireless, DSEE Extreme, and 360 Reality Audio for enhanced listening quality.
Sony says the sound signature has been fine-tuned in collaboration with experienced mastering engineers, including Randy Merrill and Chris Gehringer, aiming for balanced and accurate playback across multiple music genres.
Design and Comfort -
The design has been refined to improve comfort and fit. The WF-1000XM6 earbuds are approximately 11% slimmer than the previous model, helping them sit more naturally within the ear’s contours.
A newly introduced ventilation system is designed to improve airflow and minimize the “occlusion effect,” which can cause internal noises like footsteps or chewing to feel amplified when wearing in-ear headphones.
The earbuds come in Black and Platinum Silver textured finishes. The charging case has also been redesigned for smoother one-handed operation.
Connectivity and Additional Features -
The WF-1000XM6 supports Bluetooth 5.3 and is compatible with LE Audio for reduced latency, making it suitable for gaming and video streaming. Sony has also increased antenna size by 1.5 times compared to the previous generation to enhance connection stability.
Other key features include -
- Call Quality - Dual microphones and a bone conduction sensor in each earbud, combined with AI-based beamforming to isolate voice during calls in noisy surroundings.
- Google Gemini Integration - Built-in support for hands-free assistance and conversational interaction through Gemini Live.
- Battery Life - Up to 8 hours of playback with noise cancellation enabled, plus an additional 16 hours from the charging case, delivering a total of 24 hours. The case supports Qi wireless charging.
- Durability - IPX4-rated water resistance for protection against splashes and light rain.
