Sony Alpha 7R VI Mirrorless Camera launched in India with 66.8MP Sensor, XLR-A4 Audio Adaptor

Sony India has expanded its full-frame mirrorless camera lineup with the launch of the Alpha 7R VI, the latest model in the Alpha 7R series. The new camera features a 66.8MP effective back-illuminated stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor, Sony's latest BIONZ XR2 image processor, and an AI-powered processing unit. Alongside the camera, the company has also introduced the XLR-A4 XLR Adaptor for professional audio recording.

Sony Alpha 7R VI

The Sony Alpha 7R VI is equipped with an approximately 66.8MP full-frame back-illuminated stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor that delivers up to 16 stops of dynamic range while reducing noise across mid-sensitivity ISO settings. Combined with the new BIONZ XR2 processor and an integrated AI processing unit, the camera offers sensor readout speeds that are up to 5.6 times faster than the previous generation.

The improved readout enables blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30fps with as many as 60 AF/AE calculations per second. Sony has also incorporated its Real-time Recognition AF+ system, which uses AI-powered skeletal tracking and subject recognition for improved autofocus performance.

Imaging Features

  • 5-axis in-body image stabilization with up to 8.5 stops of compensation at the center and 7.0 stops at the edges.
  • Auto White Balance is powered by visible light and infrared sensors with AI-based scene analysis.
  • Support for Sony's Camera Authenticity Solution based on the C2PA standard.

The camera is powered by Sony's NP-SA100 2670mAh battery, which is rated for up to 710 still images using the LCD monitor or up to 600 shots with the electronic viewfinder under CIPA testing standards.

Additional Features

  • 9.44-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder with DCI-P3 equivalent color gamut and 10-bit HDR support.
  • Up to three times brighter electronic viewfinder compared to previous models.
  • Dual USB Type-C ports for simultaneous charging and data transfer.
  • Illuminated rear control buttons.
  • Magnesium alloy body construction.
  • 4-axis multi-angle LCD screen.
  • Memory Recall function is assignable to customizable buttons.

Video Recording Features

  • 8K video recording at 30fps with 8.2K oversampling.
  • Full-frame 4K recording at up to 60fps and 4K 120fps without cropping.
  • Dual Gain Shooting technology for improved shadow detail and reduced image noise.
  • Redesigned in-body stabilization with approximately two times greater roll-axis compensation.
  • Dynamic Active Mode image stabilization.
  • Up to 120 minutes of continuous 8K recording through enhanced thermal management.
  • Internal 32-bit float audio recording when paired with the XLR-A4 adaptor.

Sony XLR-A4 XLR Adaptor

Sony has also introduced the XLR-A4 XLR Adaptor, designed to deliver professional-grade digital audio recording directly through compatible Alpha cameras.

Audio Features

  • Supports up to four channels of digital audio recording through Sony's Multi Interface Shoe.
  • Compatible with XLR microphones such as the ECM-778 for up to two-channel recording.
  • Supports stereo microphones through a 3.5mm audio input.
  • Enables up to 96kHz 32-bit float four-channel recording on supported cameras.

The adaptor incorporates dual analog-to-digital converters to capture a wider dynamic range. Its 32-bit float recording capability eliminates the need for manual gain adjustments while minimizing clipping and audio distortion.

Design Improvements

Compared to the previous XLR-K3M adaptor, the new XLR-A4 features a slimmer profile, reinforced chassis, and includes a shoe-mounted extension cable that allows placement up to approximately 60cm away from the camera. The side-exit cable design also helps reduce interference with camera rigs and other accessories.

Additionally, the adaptor supports USB Audio Class 2.0 and can function as a 96kHz/24-bit two-channel USB audio interface when connected to a PC.
