Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon G3 Gen 3, G2 Gen 2, and G1 Gen 2 SoC for Handheld Gaming Devices

Qualcomm introduced its latest Snapdragon G Series lineup for handheld gaming devices at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2024, serving as the successor to last year’s models. This new portfolio is designed to cater to a wide range of gamers, featuring three platforms: Snapdragon G3 Gen 3, Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, and Snapdragon G1 Gen 2, each optimized for different levels of portable gaming performance.

Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 -

The Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 stands as the flagship platform of the series. It is the first Snapdragon G Series platform to support Lumen, Unreal Engine 5's dynamic global illumination and reflections system, for Android handheld devices. Compared to its predecessor, the G3 Gen 3 offers 30% better CPU performance and a 28% boost in graphics capabilities, with enhanced power optimization and energy efficiency. It also supports Wi-Fi 7, which reduces latency and increases wireless bandwidth.

Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 -

The Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 is geared for both gaming and cloud gaming at 144 frames per second on dedicated gaming devices. It promises a balance of performance and efficiency, with 2.3x better CPU performance and a 3.8x improvement in GPU capabilities over the previous G2 Gen 1. This platform also includes Wi-Fi 7 support.

Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 -

Designed for cloud gaming on dedicated handheld Android devices, the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 targets a broader audience, offering 1080p resolution at 120 frames per second over Wi-Fi. It delivers 80% better CPU performance and a 25% boost in GPU performance for cloud-based gameplay.

Availability -

AYANEO, ONEXSUGAR, and Retroid Pocket are among the OEMs set to launch devices powered by the new Snapdragon G Series starting in Q1 2025.
