Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 launched Globally with Bluetooth 6.0, UWB, Up to 790-Day Battery Life, Cross-Platform Support
Samsung has launched its latest item-tracking device, the Galaxy SmartTag3 in the Global Market, the successor to the Galaxy SmartTag2. The new tracker comes with a redesigned and more compact body, longer battery life, wider software compatibility, and updated wireless technologies aimed at improving tracking accuracy.
Compact hardware and cross-platform integration
The Galaxy SmartTag3 is approximately 35% smaller in volume and 33% lighter than its predecessor. It features a rounded design with an aluminum-accented physical button.
Samsung is introducing two dedicated accessories for the tracker: a Silicone Case with an integrated keyring and a Loop Case. The device also retains an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.
The Galaxy SmartTag3 offers up to 550 days of battery life under standard usage. When Power Saving Mode is enabled, battery life can be extended to up to 790 days.
One key addition is cross-platform support. Unlike previous models that were limited to Samsung’s ecosystem, the Galaxy SmartTag3 allows both Galaxy and iOS devices to access core location and sharing functions through the SmartThings Find network. This allows users across different platforms to share access to tagged items, check location history, and perform nearby searches.
Extended tracking and network architecture
The Galaxy SmartTag3 combines Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, and Samsung’s crowdsourced Galaxy Find Network for location tracking.
- Long-Range Compass View: Using Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, the tracker can provide directional and distance information from up to 60 meters away, which Samsung says is around three times the range of the previous model.
- Precision Finding: When users get close to the tagged item, UWB technology provides more precise directional guidance.
- Crowdsourced Node Network: When the tracker is outside direct connection range, it can use the Galaxy Find Network. Samsung says the network includes more than 900 million opted-in Galaxy devices worldwide that can relay encrypted location updates.
Proactive alerts and utility features
The SmartTag3 includes several automated monitoring features designed to reduce the need for manual tracking.
- Place Notification: Users can define geographic boundaries and receive automatic notifications when the tag enters or leaves a specified area.
- Movement Detection and History: Alerts can notify users about unexpected movement, while a Location History log provides a record of previous activity.
- SmartThings IoT Control: The physical button can be configured to activate preset smart home routines.
- Lost Mode: The built-in NFC chip allows someone who finds a lost SmartTag3 to scan it using a compatible smartphone and view the registered contact information.
- Left Behind Alerts: Users receive push notifications when the direct connection to a tagged item is unexpectedly lost.
Samsung says all transmitted location information is end-to-end encrypted to help protect user privacy.
Pricing and availability
The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 will be available in Black and White color options. It is priced at:
