Samsung Galaxy J2 (2018) launched in India, 5-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon processor priced at Rs. 8190
Samsung today launched a new budget device in India to take on Xiaomi. The Galaxy J2 2018 packs a Snapdragon quad-core processor (possibly SD 425) with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. Last we heard, the Galaxy J2's new avatar still ran on Android 7.1, and it's not clear whether the Indian variant has Oreo onboard or not.
Apart from that, it's a thorough budget device, built primarily of plastic. You get a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. It can capture 1080p videos at 30FPS. Inside, there's a 2600 mAh battery.
In the front, you get a 5-inch qHD (960x540 pixels) Super AMOLED display and Samsung's iconic home-button/navigation configuration at the bottom. Although most manufacturers have transitioned to HD displays in this price bracket, Samsung is still peddling low-resolution displays here.
Then there's no fingerprint sensor and no other variant with more memory. Samsung Mall has been added to the smartphone though, which provides you a way to shop by clicking images of products. A novel idea, which really hasn't translated well. We last saw this on the Galaxy On7 Prime and it didn't work well there.
