REDMI Note Series Crosses 500 Million Global Sales; REDMI Note 17 Series Arrives This July
Xiaomi has announced that its REDMI Note smartphone series has surpassed a significant milestone, with cumulative global shipments exceeding 500 million units since the lineup debuted 12 years ago.
The achievement was revealed by Xiaomi executive Lu Weibing ahead of the expected launch of the next-generation REDMI Note 17 series later this month, which will succeed the REDMI Note 15 lineup.
Budget Smartphone Market Faces Growing Challenges
The milestone comes at a time when the smartphone industry is experiencing one of its most demanding periods in recent years. Increasing component costs and manufacturing expenses have prompted many brands to reduce features in budget and mid-range smartphones.
According to Lu Weibing, capabilities that were once common in affordable devices—including OLED displays, enhanced water resistance, and durable protective glass—have become less frequent in smartphones priced below 1,000 yuan (approximately $140 or Rs. 14,000).
Despite these industry challenges, REDMI says it remains committed to delivering a strong overall user experience. The upcoming REDMI Note 17 series is expected to continue this approach by offering premium features while maintaining its position in the competitive mid-range segment.
