Nokia confirms MWC 2017 participation, are new Android smartphones coming?

Nokia has just confirmed that they will be present at Mobile World Congress 2017 (MWC) at Barcelona. The news was made official by their official Twitter handle where it was mentioned that CEO Rajeev Suri will be speaking at the conference.

At present there is no confirmation that Nokia will be announcing new Android Smartphones at the Mecca of smartphone launches but there has been speculation that the company will likely take an international stage to show its efforts over the last year. In our view MWC 2017 would be the biggest stage for Nokia to make the announcement on how it plans to come back to the market.

But just to be cautious, Rajeev Suri has just been confirmed as a Keynote speaker and this may not be about smartphone at all. There are wide number of topics from connectivity to 5G for the masses to smartphone security which may be on the agenda.

Recently though, a lot of Nokia smartphone news have been floating around, including the Nokia D1C which is supposed to run Android 7.0 Nougat with a Snapdragon 430 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, 1080p full-HD display and 13MP/8MP cameras. Then there was also talk of the high-end Nokia P1 flagships with AMOLED displays.

The company had earlier said they would be launching new smartphone by Q4 2016 which is set to end in December, which does mean that the timeline will be shifted. Again, this is just speculation at this time but it does add a sense of hope after the doom and gloom we have witnessed over the last few weeks due to the Galaxy Note 7.
