iQOO Neo12 launched with 6.83-inch 2K+ 185Hz display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, Active cooling fan, 9000mAh battery
iQOO has launched its latest flagship gaming-focused smartphone in the Neo series, the iQOO Neo12 in China, following a series of teasers. The new model brings significant hardware enhancements, including a faster display, upgraded processing capabilities, an improved active cooling system, and updated camera hardware.
Design and Ergonomics
The iQOO Neo12 features a distinctive design developed in collaboration with the China Academy of Art. It debuts a new finish called Contender, alongside two additional colour options: Shadow Black and Frost Blade Blue.
Designed to improve comfort during extended gaming sessions, the smartphone features more rounded corners and a redesigned camera deco structure for a more comfortable horizontal grip. Its construction combines a low-temperature matte metal middle frame with an anti-glare (AG) frosted glass back, designed to minimise smudges and fingerprints.
Performance and Thermal Management
The iQOO Neo12 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 platform and incorporates the proprietary Monster performance engine also used in the flagship iQOO 16.
To maintain performance during demanding gaming sessions, the device features an upgraded Ice Dome cooling system with the following components:
- Active Cooling Fan: A custom 59-blade fan measuring 17mm in diameter and 4mm in height, delivering a claimed 10% improvement in airflow.
- Optimised Air Duct: Integrated heat-conducting wind fins help improve heat dissipation efficiency by an estimated 15%.
- Vapor Chamber: An 8.2K 3D Ice Dome VC plate is claimed to deliver a 15% improvement in thermal performance over the previous-generation iQOO Neo11.
Display and Visual Engine
The smartphone features a 6.83-inch 2K display with an industry-first 185Hz refresh rate. The panel uses new Sky Mirror luminescent material combined with pTSF technology to achieve a full-screen peak brightness of up to 2,200 nits.
A dedicated, custom-developed 2K 185Hz display driver chip manages display operations. According to iQOO, it delivers a 28% improvement in processing performance while reducing power consumption by 30% compared with its predecessor. Touch input is handled by an ultra-sensitive touch controller, complemented by Q-flex technology carried over from the iQOO 16.
Dedicated Gaming Architecture
The iQOO Neo12 incorporates the company's in-house Q3 gaming chip, which functions as a secondary graphics processor. Working alongside the QNSS super-rendering engine, it enables simultaneous full-scene ray tracing, 2K resolution upscaling, and frame-rate interpolation. The system also supports local shadow enhancement and two software-based colour filters.
The device also includes several gaming-specific software optimisations:
- Simultaneous triple visual enhancement combining ray tracing, super-resolution, and frame interpolation across six supported games.
- Full-scene ray tracing support in 10 mobile games.
- Native 2K image super-resolution across 13 titles.
- Simultaneous native super-resolution and frame-rate interpolation across 12 titles.
Camera
For photography, the iQOO Neo12 features a dual rear camera setup led by a 50-megapixel Sony large-format sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS). The primary camera supports super-macro photography and portrait modes at multiple focal lengths.
The main sensor is accompanied by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera on the rear. For selfies and video calls, the smartphone features a 16-megapixel front-facing camera.
