HMD Global Introduces new HMD brand for making own Smartphones
HMD Global, the manufacturer of Nokia smartphones, has revealed its plans to introduce an original HMD brand. This announcement was made by Jean-Francois Baril, who serves as Co-Founder, Chairman & CEO of HMD Global.
According to him, the company will unveil a fresh lineup of mobile devices under the HMD brand, in addition to continuing with Nokia devices. They also intend to establish partnerships with new collaborators to launch additional devices, which aligns with recent EUIPO filings showcasing the HMD branding.
HMD Global made its initial foray into the smartphone market with the release of the Nokia 6 in 2017, subsequently introducing various Nokia-branded phones. Following the launch of the flagship Nokia 9 PureView camera-centric smartphone at MWC in 2019, the company opted last year to shift its focus away from flagship devices and concentrate on producing entry-level and mid-range phones.
It will be intriguing to observe how the new HMD-branded mobile phones differentiate themselves from the existing Nokia phones in the market.
