Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Alexa Tablet 11, and Alexa Tablet 8 launched Globally along with Amazon Kids Tablets

Amazon has launched its three new Android tablets featuring built-in Alexa+: the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Alexa Tablet 11, and Alexa Tablet 8. The company has also expanded its lineup with new Amazon Kids Tablets in 8.7-inch and 11-inch sizes, designed for children aged 3 and above and 6 and above, respectively.

Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro

The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro features a slim aluminum unibody design with a thickness of just 6.5mm. It sports a 12-inch display with a 280 PPI pixel density, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. Buyers can opt for either the standard display or a Nanomatte variant featuring anti-glare technology.

Powering the tablet is a 4nm octa-core processor, which Amazon claims delivers nearly three times faster processing performance and nine times faster graphics performance than any tablet the company has previously shipped. The device is designed to handle multi-window multitasking, graphics-intensive gaming, and 4K video streaming.

Other key specifications include:

  • Memory: Up to 16GB of RAM.
  • Audio: Quad speakers with Dolby Atmos support.
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6E.
  • Battery life: Up to 16 hours of video playback.

Amazon Alexa Tablet 11

The Amazon Alexa Tablet 11 comes with an 11-inch display featuring a 2.5K resolution, 276 PPI pixel density, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 16:10 aspect ratio. It features an aluminum unibody design and is powered by an octa-core processor paired with 8GB of RAM.

For audio, the tablet includes dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support. Amazon claims the device can deliver up to 15 hours of video playback on a single charge.

Amazon Alexa Tablet 8

The Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 features an 8.7-inch display housed in an all-aluminum body. The tablet weighs 329g and measures 7.95mm in thickness, making it a compact option for everyday use.

It is powered by an octa-core processor, supports Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, and offers up to 14 hours of video playback.

Amazon Alexa Tablet Features

Nanomatte Display

The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro's optional Nanomatte display uses precision-etched anti-glare technology developed in collaboration with Corning. The technology employs a photolithography process to create a pixel-aligned texture at the sub-pixel level, helping reduce reflections while maintaining image detail and color accuracy.

Unlike traditional matte displays that rely on sandblasting, this approach is designed to preserve contrast even in brightly lit environments. According to Amazon, the display provides a comfortable viewing experience for reading both indoors and outdoors, even under changing lighting conditions.

Pro Pen and Pro Keyboard

Amazon has introduced two optional accessories for the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro: the Alexa Tablet Pro Pen and the Alexa Tablet Pro Keyboard.

The Pro Pen is a USI 2.0 active stylus that supports 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt detection. It also features magnetic attachment and wireless charging. When used with the Nanomatte display, the stylus is designed to provide a writing experience that closely resembles putting pen to paper.

Users can employ the stylus to annotate PDFs, create sketches, take handwritten notes, and mark up documents.

The Pro Keyboard attaches magnetically to the tablet without requiring Bluetooth pairing. It supports a multitasking workflow, allowing users to open, arrange, and resize multiple windows side by side while working with applications such as email, Slack, and AI coding tools. The tablet also supports switching between work and personal profiles.

Kindle Reading Experience

The Kindle app introduces a dedicated reading mode on the new Alexa Tablets. When users open a book, notifications are muted and blue light is reduced to create a more focused reading environment. Amazon says battery life can extend to up to 20 hours in this mode.

Readers can select from three display themes: a natural-color option with subtle warmth, a softened paper-like tone, and grayscale.

On the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, the Pro Pen also enables users to highlight and underline passages, add handwritten notes, and annotate pages. These annotations sync across supported Kindle apps and Kindle Scribe, allowing users to access and continue working with their notes across compatible devices.

Alexa+ and On-Screen Intelligence

Alexa+ comes integrated into all three tablets and can be activated by saying “Alexa” or tapping the Ask Alexa button. The assistant can answer questions, recommend next steps, and manage compatible smart-home devices.

Alexa+ can also personalize its assistance based on users' content, connected smart-home devices, recommendations, and preferences.

The On-Screen Intelligence feature allows users to ask questions about whatever is currently displayed on their tablet. For instance, while exploring hiking trails, users can ask Alexa to compare available options according to their preferences. The feature can also identify dates in a game schedule, add them to a calendar, and highlight potential scheduling conflicts.

On-Screen Intelligence can be enabled or disabled through the Settings menu. It is turned off by default and requires users to opt in. A visual indicator appears whenever Alexa has access to the screen.

For more natural interactions, Live sessions allow users to continue a conversation without repeating the wake word before every question. Users can start a session by tapping the Alexa icon and optionally share their screen, enabling Alexa to follow changes in the displayed content in real time.

Privacy and Personalization

Amazon provides controls that let users manage when Alexa listens, accesses screen content, or remembers information. These features can be disabled whenever required.

The tablets also feature a personalized home screen with a For You feed and Dynamic Tab. The For You feed brings together content users have been watching, reading, listening to, and playing, while Dynamic Tab highlights ongoing activities, personalized recommendations, and relevant suggestions.

Reading progress in Kindle is also preserved, allowing users to resume their books when they return to the app on their tablet.

The new tablets run Android and support Google Play applications, including YouTube, Netflix, Gmail, and Google Docs. Amazon's own services are also available, including Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, Amazon Music, Amazon Quick, and Amazon Luna.

Amazon Kids Tablets

Amazon's Kids Tablet lineup is available in 8.7-inch and 11-inch variants, designed for children aged 3 and above and 6 and above, respectively. Each package includes a tablet, a protective case tailored to the intended age group, a one-year Kids+ subscription, and a one-year limited warranty.

The tablets offer a curated selection of age-appropriate apps, videos, games, and books from popular brands, including Disney, Nickelodeon, LEGO, and Sesame Street. Parents can manage their children's access and usage through the Parent Dashboard, which also provides controls for Google Play applications.

Amazon Kids Tablet 8.7-inch

The Amazon Kids Tablet 8.7-inch comes with 64GB of internal storage and delivers up to 14 hours of video playback. It also allows children to download their favorite shows, games, and books for offline access.

Amazon Kids Tablet 11-inch

The Amazon Kids Tablet 11-inch features a 2.5K display, 8GB of RAM, and stylus support for creative activities, drawing, and schoolwork. Both Kids Tablet models run Android and provide access to Google Play, with parental controls available to help manage app usage.

The 8.7-inch model comes bundled with a soft bumper case, while the 11-inch version includes a slim hard case. Both tablets are available in themed designs featuring popular characters from Paw Patrol, Barbie, and SpongeBob SquarePants.

Parent Dashboard and Parental Controls

Parent Dashboard comes pre-installed on every Kids Tablet and is also offered as a free application for iOS and Android devices. Parents can adjust settings directly on the tablet or manage them remotely using their smartphones.

The dashboard offers several tools to help parents manage their children's digital activities, including:

  • Setting screen-time limits and tracking children's activity.
  • Discovering age-appropriate books, apps, games, videos, and audiobooks.
  • Creating Learn First goals that encourage children to complete reading and educational activities before accessing entertainment content.
  • Managing web browsing and remotely pausing or resuming device access.
  • Viewing stories and artwork created using Stories with Alexa, Storybuilder, and Art Studio.

Parent Dashboard supports up to four child profiles and allows parents to configure settings across compatible Amazon devices.

Storybuilder, Kids+ and Google Play

The Kids+ subscription includes Storybuilder, an AI-powered creative tool that enables children to develop characters, introduce plot twists, and imagine fictional worlds using their voices. Their ideas are transformed into illustrated picture books and comic books that they can share with their parents. Built-in safeguards are designed to keep the experience appropriate for children.

Every Kids Tablet comes with a one-year Kids+ subscription, providing access to a curated, ad-free library of books, television shows, games, apps, and audiobooks. Younger readers can explore content featuring Bluey and Peppa Pig, while older children can access titles such as Harry Potter and Percy Jackson.

Kids+ is compatible with supported Amazon Kids Tablets, Fire tablets, Kindle devices, Fire TV, and Echo devices. The service is also available on adult Alexa-enabled tablets configured with a child profile.

Parents can expand the available content beyond the Kids+ library by approving applications from the full Google Play Store through the Parent Dashboard. Parental approval is required for every download.
